Christmas Day

About time I got around to this! Jay and I had Christmas at our place again this year. My parents, Jay's parents, and the couple from next door all came over. Our neighbor's son lives down in Florida, they don't have any other family in the area, and it would be a shame for them to spend the holiday alone. My brother, his wife, and their new daughter went up north to his wife's family for Christmas this year. It's only fair since they've been coming to our place for the last few years, and they have a new baby to show off to her family. We had the counter covered with appetizers so people had plenty to much on.
Everyone sat around the living room and chatted until dinner was served. Jay had prepared orange glazed ham, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, and other dishes I can't remember! I thought we were going to have to split people up at two tables, but Dorry, neighbor lady, said if we cozied up we could all sit at the same table. After we were all stuffed, we went back out to the living room to open presents. When all the presents were opened, and dinner had settled a little bit, we went back to the kitchen for a slice of Mom's pecan pie! People started packing up and heading out a little after desert. The parents would have stayed longer but there was some inclement weather on the way, and they had to drive home.
When everyone had left,we finished cleaning up, washing the dishes and sat back in front of the fireplace.

The End of an Error

I discovered homophones, aren't I clever!
I'm watching the inauguration of Barack Obama. It's interesting to watch history in the making as the first black President of the United States takes the oath of office. His inauguration speech recognized several diverse groups, and was generally positive with a confident outlook for the future.
Personally I hope he'll reverse the erosion of personal freedoms, and some of the failed policies of the previous administration. Things won't get better overnight but at least there's hope for the future!

Holiday Gathering

I need to get caught up on some holiday blogging before I completely procrastinate the season away!
On December 23rd Jay and I went out to the local Green Mill to have dinner with friends including three that moved away, but were back in town for the season! The first 30 to 45 minutes were kind of excruciating because some shrill little kid was running around screaming and the parents weren't really keeping him in check. "Excuse me, ma'am? Have you ever considered beating his ass!?" John and Warren were sitting at the other end of the table so I ran down to catch up with them. Their boys are doing well, and losing their baby teeth, which led to one of them questioning the authenticity of the Tooth Fairy. They're still good with Santa Clause though! When the food came I headed back to my end of the table and chatted up people there. I didn't get much of an opportunity to talk to Don, the other out-of-towner, but he said he'll be back in February. The waitress made another pass and asked if we wanted desert. I think everyone groaned and said there was no room left, so the checks weredistributed, and we called it a night.
